Completed in the summer of 2011, the UBC Pacific Centre for Isotopic and Geochemical Research Laboratory (PCIGR) at the Department of Earth Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences was designed as a conversion of existing ground floor office space in the UBC (Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences) building to create a high performance clean lab for geochemical analysis. The PCIGR is considered UBC’s flagship geochemistry facility. State-of-the-art highly sensitive equipment planned for the lab required that new vibration isolation slabs be installed retrofitting the existing concrete slab. The demanding clean air lab environment was achieved through significant mechanical system upgrades combined with appropriate interior floor, wall and ceiling architectural finishes. PCIGR services university researchers, government agencies, the mineral exploration industry and the international scientific community.
